While otters are clever, and often cute creatures, they can pose a threat to your pond or nearby water source. Ultimately, otters will eat any fish and non-invasive species native to your pond, hatchery, or aquaculture. This can be extremely frustrating and can cause damage to the ecosystem. Evidence of otters can easily be spotted through their scat or uneaten fish parts scattered about in shallow parts of the water.
Otters will often den in areas such as:
- Nutria houses
- Abandoned beaver lodges
- Hollow logs and in between rocks
- Abandoned structures
